Granny's Cornbread
One of my favorite sides to a good, southern meal, has always been my granny's skillet fried cornbread. With the simplest ingredients, my granny's cornbread always compliments the meal. For as long as I can remember, my granny has been making her famous cornbread for our small Sunday dinners and our large holiday meals.
This small side takes approximately 20-30 minutes to cook, and taste like heaven on earth. Below I am going to give you guys the ingredients and the directions on how to make my granny's cornbread. I hope you guys enjoy!
Need
- Mixing Bowl
- Iron Skillet
- Cornmeal
- Hot Water
- 1 Egg (Optional)
- Salt
- Vegetable Oil
In a mixing bowl (the size of the bowl determines the amount of cornbread desired), mix together cornmeal, hot water, an egg (optional), and salt. The mixture will create a creamy solution that once poured into the skillet will be ready to fry up. In the skillet, pour just a little oil to cover the bottom of the skillet, and turn the stove on low-heat. Pour the mixture into the skillet, and let it sit for a few minutes. Once the skillet is on the stove, allow the first side to fry until golden brown, and then flip. (My granny uses a plate). After the second side is browned to perfection, you are ready to eat. *Remember, use just a little oil, otherwise, the cornbread will be greasy. And lastly, my family actually does not use actually measurements. We measure by eye. So when making this dish, make sure to add salt last to the mixture so to not make it too salty.
